... or finalized as the legal folks like to say. It was quick and simple. Fairly anticlimactic compared to Kofi's, mostly because we already feel so much like a family, it was hard to feel different after a signature was placed on a piece of paper. Also, the judge was more informal than our last judge who lent the proceedings a degree of gravitas; today's judge handed out lollipops. She also mispronounced "irrevocable" which is pretty unforgivable to this Northeastern elitist. Let's just put it this way: our children will say it correctly. [I still remember learning how to pronounce it in high school when Candy Brownie -- yes her real name -- had to say the word in a play, or maybe her partner in the scene did... anyway, I always think of her when I hear that word, correctly or incorrectly pronounced.]But back to Gil: we tried to call his birth mom last night to let her know this was happening today. We also wanted to tell her that we had changed his name, something which we were avoiding doing so as not to hurt her feelings or antagonize her. Hopefully she realizes that this was likely to happen. We'll try again tonight.
In the meantime, we are now all set to get married in 2 weeks and then one last legal hurdle: a pro forma step-parent adoption by Rob of both children.
